UI, Level, and Boss Fight Designer

Hook & Sinker is a 2D bullet-hell boss rush game where players take on the role of a hunter who slays monstrous sea creatures. The game challenges players to master navigating the stage and utilizing their harpoon gun to hook and sink a massive leviathan.
I worked with seven other talented developers with a wide range of skills to bring this epic duel to life. We ran into plenty of large road blocks along the way due to our team composition, and as a result, lots of content we wanted to include in this prototype simply could not make it in. The gameplay ideas and design decisions I personally pitched to the team in light of the project's vastly reduced scope largely shaped the direction of the final game. Despite these frequent development hiccups, I believe we made the best of the situation and were still able to create something together that I am proud of.
I created documentation of the gameplay and systems, which included detailed sketches, to give our programmer and artists a clear vision when putting the finalized assets and code together.
Designed the final version of the boss fight that appeared in the final game. While the general concept was based on others' ideas, many game mechanics central to this boss fight were created by entirely by me.
Finalized and polished the level designs drafted by another designer. Implemented tutorial elements to teach the player important mechanics that would be used in the boss fight.
Designed and implemented the UI of the game, including all its menus and health bar, and created the hand-lettered text appearing throughout the game to help sell the ruinous vibe of the level.
